How can I uninstall Office web applications that have been installed without my permission?

If a Windows 10 device is reset using a feature of the operating system, unwanted apps may appear on subsequent reinstallation. These include Spotify, all sorts of cheap and often very childish games, various links to Office web apps, and of course the obligatory OneNote. While the apps and games can be removed in the usual way, deleting the web links fails, and worse still, these shortcuts do not disappear from the Start menu even after installing the full Office 2019 or Microsoft 365 package, so Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word all appear twice, which can confuse some programs.

And to add to the confusion: the only way to know that it’s a link and not a local application is the size of the icon.

To remove these superfluous entries, do the following: right-click on one of the four shortcuts in the Start menu and choose Tools/Open File Location. In the folder that now opens, select the four shortcuts and press Delete. This will get rid of all of them in one go.
