How do I connect my Android smartphone to the Connected Phone app?

Microsoft’s appreciation of Android is demonstrated not least by the fact that its own Surface Duo fold-out smartphone is based on the operating system. But the Connected Phone app integrated into Windows 10 also supports specific Android devices – in this case, specific means that the device must be running at least Android 7.0 to benefit from its basic features.

The full feature set is reserved for the Surface Duo and a range of Samsung models at the moment, as the list at https://bit.ly/3vpPWDX shows. If you have such a smartphone, you just need to pair the device with the Windows 10 app.

Open the Connected phone app, select your Android phone on the welcome screen, and go from there. As shown in the Connected Phone wizard, install the Connected Phone companion device – Windows pairing app on your smartphone. If you have a Samsung phone with Windows pairing pre-installed, just enable the service. In the wizard, first click on Yes, I’m done with the installation of the Connected Phone Companion device, and then click on Open QR code.

Next, open the Connected Phone Companion – Windows Connectivity app or Windows Connectivity on your phone, tap Add a computer, and scan the QR code on the screen. After a tap on Done, it will take a few seconds until the connection is actually established.

If you want to make a call from your computer, click on the Calls entry in the left column of the Connected phone app and select Get started. In the phone window that pops up, click the Enable button and start Bluetooth pairing.
